Tremble

Isaiah 44:8New International Version (NIV)

Do not tremble, do not be afraid.
Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago?
You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me?
No, there is no other Rock; I know not one.”

I will not tremble, God

I will not fear,

For You are in control, my Salvation and my Rod.

There is no one like You,

No one in all the earth.

You are my Rock on which I stand.

Salvation and Noah’s Ark

The symbolism of the ark and the flood are profound.

  1. What does the ark look like? A coffin. It represents the death of Jesus and our dying with Him. In this death we find safety because we are no longer facing hell and damnation because of our sins. This is not any easy road to go and so the majority, as in Noah’s day, does not head the warning. They laugh and scoff and give reasons why they will not do it this way.

2. The pitch or tar which covered the ark is like the blood of Jesus covering us. The pitch was to make the ark waterproof and to keep the ark from sinking. The blood of Jesus covers us and makes us righteous in the sight of God.

3. The ark had only one door to get in and when the rain was about to come it was shut by God Himself. Jesus is the doorway to God and salvation. He is the only way in and one day God will shut that door to sinners.

4. Also the time spent on the ark can be seen this way:

Noah and company goes into the ark and it starts raining. — God judges — Jesus suffers and dies.

The inhabitants of the ark live there for at least 1 year — God “forgets” — Jesus is buried three days.

God “remembers” Noah and family and they come out of the ark — God’s mercy returns — Jesus rises from the grave forever saving all who believe in Him.

What do you think? Am I off my rocker or is there something to this? Other people have had similar thoughts, check out Les Feldick in his lesson on Noah and the flood (Book 2, Lesson 3, Segment 4) and also the commentary on Genesis 8:1-3 in Benson’s commentary.

God Contends with Men Today

Genesis 6:3 The Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal, their days will be a hundred and twenty years.”

When God said that, He gave mankind 120 years to repent of their evil deeds. After that, He intended to contend with the people in Noah’s days no more. He spoke to Noah and Noah began building the ark. While he was doing this, he was witnessing and preaching to people, telling them to repent. In 2 Peter 2:5 Noah was called a “herald or preacher of righteousness”.  He warned the people but the people did not listen. In Genesis 6:6, 7 God had had enough. He decided to destroy everyone but Noah and his family.

God’s Spirit contends with men today: giving light to a darkened mind, showing them their sinful nature, stirring their conscience, leading them to faith in Jesus as their Savior and Lord and to repentance from sin to faith. One day, the Spirit will contend with man no longer. He will go with the church in the rapture and then the tribulation will come. Please if you haven’t seen your sin and taken the free gift of grace from God through Jesus Christ, do so. The day will come when it will not be that easy to come to the Lord anymore. The world is turning into the world of Noah, where “every intention of the thoughts of men’s hearts are only evil continually”. You don’t want to be trapped in that kind of world. Acknowledge your sin and come to Jesus. Accept Him as your Savior and Lord.

God remembers

Genesis 7:24, 8:1 The waters flooded the earth for one hundred and fifty days. But God remember Noah….

I had a terrible crisis the other day. I thought I had a job and I praised God for it. But it turned out to be a phony job. The guy was trying to scam me in a way I never heard before. I didn’t give him any money but he did get some information about me. He said his company for which I was hired to work for would send me a check to cover new equipment that I would need for the job. My husband thought it was funny that he did it that way. I should have listened to him and questioned him. Thankfully, God was looking out for me and the post office saw that the letter was phony with a phony address and sent it on to the authorities.

The reason I am telling you my crisis is this. For many years my family has been struggling financially. And I thought maybe our financial woes were coming to an end. But I was wrong. And I felt sad, angry, depressed. I though maybe God had forgotten me and my family. But He didn’t.

Noah was on the ark for 150 days plus the 40 days it took to get to high water (covering the mountains). That’s a long time to stay on a floating house with a whole lot of animals. Noah must have thought that God had forgotten about him. But he didn’t. Even though the flood waters receded it still took a long time before the earth dried up.

God did not forget me. It took a long time for my family to get into this mess and it will take us some time to get out of this mess. This morning, I was reading about the flood and listening to a Bible study on this subject. He said that when the Bible says that God remembered it didn’t mean He forgot but that it was finally time to get Noah on to dry land. God could have done it instantly like He did in creation or even in a few days. But He chose to do it naturally through a wind to let the waters recede slowly. God did not forget me but we have to wait for Him to move things in a slower manner than I anticipated. I trust God. He knows what He is doing. I will wait and test the waters like Noah did. My family and I are going to be okay.
